Care Information
Terracotta is a naturally porous clay that is loved by gardeners for its ability to resist overwatering issues and diseases, and to help keep the roots cooler in hot weather. It does however dry the soil out quickly which will suit some plants (succulents for example) but will not work for thirstier plants.
Planting directly into the pots will eventually result in a white residue on the exterior caused by minerals in water, and although it does wash off, it obscures the lovely details.
We recommend using our pots instead as decorative outer pots and placing your plants in a liner or nursery pot inside them. Many plants thrive if you take the pot out and give them a good long soak before replacing them.
If you prefer to plant directly inside, you can waterproof the inside of the pot and the tray with a terracotta sealer spray available at your local hardware store. The sealer will slow the plant drying out and also reduce the white residue buildup.
